Philips Semiconductors Introduces World's First True Capacitor-Free Low-Drop Out Regulator (CapFREE(TM)) Family
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Philips Semiconductors, a
division of Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHI), today announced
the industry's first true capacitor-free regulators, the CapFREE Family of
Low-Drop Out Regulators (LDOs).
The first member in the family, the 150mA
SA57000-xx, provides leading edge performance in drop-out voltage, accuracy,
ground-pin current, noise, line and load regulation without requiring external
capacitors. This lowers customers' bill of materials, reduces system costs and
simplifies the system design. The SA57000-xx, which offers fixed output voltages between 2.5V and 3.6V,
requires no output capacitor because the device's outputs are stable
regardless of the equivalent series resistance (ESR).
In addition, the
elimination of the noise-bypass capacitor creates a smaller footprint enabling
more functionality such as thermal and low voltage warning without increasing
the pin-count. ``Eliminating capacitors with our CapFREE family is a breakthrough that
resonates with system designers everywhere,'' said Zohar Raz, strategic
marketing manager, Standard Analog Business Line, Philips Semiconductors.
``These efforts help our customers shrink portable electronics, cellular
phones, notebook computers and other highly integrated designs more
effectively than ever before. The SA57000-xx, also, paves the way for other
CapFREE family members in the low and ultra-low-output-voltage LDOs.'' Pricing and Availability Philips Semiconductors' CapFREE SA57000-xx comes in a 5-lead SOT23 package
priced at USD $.39 per unit in quantities of less than 1,000.
The product is
available through the company's global sales team.
